Booth wins first stop of the APP SUP World Tour in London, U.K

The APP World Tour has taken SUP racing to a whole new level, with the best of the best paddling down the River Thames of London, United Kingdom last weekend.

Aussie paddler; Michael Booth once again took out the win against a highly competitive field with the likes of Kai Lenny, Mo Freitas, Travis Grant, Arthur Arutkin, Casper Steinfath and Connor Baxter (just to name a few) giving him a run for his money.

“There was so many world class names that raced on the weekend, making it a super strong field of competition that put on a fantastic show for spectators,” said Booth.

Booth backed up his win on the Thames to place 6th in his best ever finish in the sprint format on Saturday afternoon. He then finished off the weekend winning the 11km course race at the Dockyards which helped him take the overall victory ahead of Arutkin and Steinfath.

“To have won such an incredible event, after never even being close to the podium before is a dream come true! Racing in London and on the Thames is something I never thought I’d do so I’m very grateful to all the people who made this weekend happen.”

Whilst Booth has had a particularly busy schedule the past few months, including recently taking out the European Championship Title for the second year running, there was no way he was going to miss out on such a remarkable event taking place for the first time.

“When I first heard about the APP World Tour taking place in London city, I was so excited to have the opportunity to race in a new destination that I hadn’t ever competed in before”.

London, known as one of the most iconic landmarks of the world will hugely benefit the SUP community, exposing locals and tourists to a festival like no other.

With SUP racing growing faster than ever and becoming more globally recognised, drawing traction from all over the world, Booth aspires to participate and compete in as many destinations as possible throughout his career.

“To see SUP reach new crowds and continue to grow really excites me! I hope to continue to race in new destinations and showcase to the world what SUP is really all about,” said Booth.

The APP World Tour is one of the biggest festivals to take place in the iconic city of London and this year welcomed both amateur paddlers as well as professionals, with an event for everyone to take place.

Booth; one that is known to embrace challenges with ease, admitted that last weekend was one of the toughest fields of competition he had raced against all season. Michael took home with him a well-earned win, however acknowledged that it wasn’t one that came easy.

“Racing in London was nothing short of extraordinary. The event was organised really well, making it a huge success for all involved. I can’t wait to be back here!” he said.

Boothy will now head home to Perth, Western Australia where he plans to clock up some km’s in preparation for the Molokai to Oahu World Paddleboard Championship held in Hawaii on the 29th July.
