Shaun Rice is a local Perth icon in Ocean Ski paddling, originally from Durban, South Africa he has an incredible history in all types of paddling including sprint, slalom, ocean ski and river racing. His focus was never on winning races as he was more about having fun and enjoying the journey. This doesn’t mean he didn’t find success and we speak about having wins in the river races, racing in Europe for SA, dealing with apartheid as an athlete, missing out on Olympic selection, training with the Chalupsky’s, kayaking on the North Fork of the Payette River, his famous rolls in the crocodile marathon, and a whole bunch of stories from his paddling career!
