Unstoppable Booth has eyes on the prize

- By Lauren Barley

Michael Booth has only one thing on his mind heading into the ISA SUP World Championships held in Denmark next month – to come out on top.

Having recently won the European Championship title, Australian SUP paddler Michael Booth remains dedicated to his fierce daily training regime and will stop at nothing to have his photo taken on the #1 podium position at next weeks competition.

There is no denying Booth is a stand out waterman and an admiration to the SUP racing community both in Australia and Internationally. Coming from a background in Surf Ski Paddling and Kayaking, Michael shifted his focus to SUP racing in 2015 when he realised his true potential lied in this new passion of his.

“SUP is a sport that I not only am good at, but I really love”, he said.

“It gives me the opportunity to compete and travel all around the world with my partner plus make a living”.

With years of experience under his belt, Michael self-taught himself how to paddle a SUP board. Quite evidently whatever he is doing is working well for him!

So far so good for Booth, with only time spent up front leading the pack in recent races. Having just won the Middle Harbour SUP Challenge in Sydney as well as the Hong Kong International Sup Challenge, Michael has indeed given himself a boost of confidence approaching the World Champs in coming days.

“This year I have been racing really well, I am relaxed and feeling very good”.

Michael says he is confident in where he is at with his training and racing right now. Although challenging moving around a lot and having to alter his body clock and adjust to different temperatures and conditions, he said he wouldn’t change a thing.

“I am probably the most physically committed and mentally prepared I have ever been in regards to racing this year.

“I am just going to keep on doing what I have been doing in previous weeks and not change my routine too much and trust that I have done the work to see me come home on top”.

The ISA World Championships SUP distance race will take place on the 02nd September in Copenhagen, Denmark.
